What do you need to fully use our website?
Except for the web cam or no plug-in required guides (which you can begin viewing immediately) you will need to have a video viewer (or plug-in) installed on your system (for a list of video viewers see our Video Viewers page). A video viewer enables you to view a particular type of video clip. All of our guide listings and many of our directory listings will include the type of video format that is included at the website. The format tells you what type of video viewer you will need on your system.
Some of these video viewers may already exist on your system...and you just don't know it. For instance, your Windows 95 system have may come with a QuickTime and Video for Windows (.AVI) viewer. Therefore, if you have these viewers you can visit the Video Directory section or use the Search Engine and click on any link that has a video format of "QuickTime Clip" or ".AVI Clip" and begin viewing the video once it has been downloaded. The "Clip" means that you link directly to the video.
If you do not have any viewers installed on your system, journey over to the Video Viewers page to see where you can obtain them. Do not fear, these viewers are very easy to download and install on your system. No, really!
Note Window 95 users: Check the "Add/Remove
Programs" option in your Control Panel to see some of the
viewers installed (Be careful...don't select remove). You should
be able to tell if the QuickTime viewer is installed. Also,
QuickTime files usually have the extensions .MOV or .QT.
Searching for video content - Using our Search Engine
The center piece of The Media CHANNEL is its "value-added" Video Search Engine. By value-added, we mean that we are constantly adding information pertaining to the links in order to assist you with searching. For instance, we are constantly adding the video format that is associated to each link. Also, on a regular basis we are adding editorial comments to the links to assist you in making a selection.
Our search engine is used like any other search engine. However, currently the search engine locates the keyword or complete phrase that was entered. This means that you should not enter more words than required. Again, we are making this search engine "value-added". So, you may find video files that relate to a subject but do not specifically contain the keyword or phrase in its title.
We are always updating our links with information. Therefore, make sure that you check back regularly to see what has been updated or added.
Getting started immediately - Web Cameras/No Plug-in Required
If you want to get started using The Media CHANNEL right away, check out our "Web Cam" (web cameras) or "No Plug-In Required" guides and directories. You will be amazed at the wide variety of web cameras that are connected to the Internet around the world. Within seconds you can be looking at scenes of Hong Kong or New York or dozens of other cities from around the world. Also. there are several traffic cameras setup throughout the U.S. Before you hit the road, you may first want to see if there is a live traffic camera available.
If you would like to see motion video, check out our "No Plug-in Required" guide and directory. These guides will take you to websites that provide motion video and freeze frame video. Motion video will appear similar to what you see using a plug-in. And, freeze frame video is similar to what you see with web cameras except that captured TV or cable screens are displayed. Again you do not required a video viewer (or plug-in) to start viewing.
To begin, just select the "Web Cam" or "No Plug-in Required" video guide or directory section. Next, just sit back, have fun, and be sure to check back regularly...we add more websites every month!
Some of our pages are living in the sense that we continously
add to them. As we discover new video content pertaining to that
specific subject, we will add that content to the page.
